I think he is 5"7 he just looks shorter because he's always next to katie holmes who looks like she should be small but she's actually 5"9.

People like Tom Cruise are hard to gage due to the fact you can never know if his height is legit or if he's wearing height enhancing shoes. Most of the time it's the latter.

Humourously the show Entourage is among the people that goes by the 5'4" claim. However there actually is evidence to support those claims. A few years back Tom made an appearance on Ellen's talk show. I wasn't able to find a video of the show though. Here's the closest thing. You can atleast see the difference between Tom and Ellen and it's about the same.

Now here's the interesting thing. In that show Ellen wanted Tom to replicate his famous Risky Business scene of sliding across the floor in his socks. However Tom didn't wanted to take off his shoes so he slid with his shoes on. Obviously the shoes he was wearing must had been lifts. Now lets be nice and say Tom was wearing you're standard lifts which gives about 3 inches. Since Ellen and Portia are both listed at around 5'7"-5'8", if you do the math that would put Tom at guess where? 5'4"!
